Dip molding is the process of submerging a hot metal mold into a vat of
plastisol to produce a finished plastisol product. Many individuals may be more
familiar with plastisol than they think as it is the composition of handles on
many different types of tools as well as a number of other widely used items.
The Dip Molding Process
To start the process, a hot metal mold is placed in cool plastisol. Once the
metal mold is submerged in the plastisol, the plastisol will form around the
mold upon contact. The reason that the cool plastisol forms around the metal
mold is due to the high temperature of the mold. The mold is then removed from
the vat of plastisol and baked in order to solidify the plastisol on the mold.
The last step in the dip molding process is to cool the plastisol coated mold.
Once this is complete, the plastic portion is removed from the metal mold and
shipped out for distribution.
